Karl S. Nastrom has practiced family law, primarily in Santa Clara County and San Mateo County, since he became a California attorney in 2013. During that time he has advised and represented clients in negotiations, contested hearings, and trials related to child custody, child support, domestic violence restraining orders, alimony, establishment of paternity, marital dissolution, division of marital property, pre-marital agreements, and all issues that arise within each of those broad areas of family law.
Mr. Nastrom has also volunteered as a court-appointed settlement judge in Santa Clara County and San Mateo County to assist parties to resolve disputes outside the courtroom.
Before beginning his family law practice, Mr. Nastrom worked in Minnesota for two years as an intellectual property litigation associate at an AmLaw 100 law firm, and in Alabama for two years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender specializing in the representation of death row inmates in state and federal post-conviction proceedings. Mr. Nastrom has also taught high school mathematics in public schools in Mississippi and Maryland and has served as a U.S. Air Force Intelligence Officer stationed in England and Germany.
Mr. Nastrom has been educated at Macalester College (B.A., Mathematics and German, 1992); the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 2001); the University of Newcastle, England (M.A., Creative Writing, 2006); and the University of Mississippi (M.A., Curriculum and Instruction, 2009).
When he is not practicing law, Mr. Nastrom writes fiction. He is finishing his first novel.
